New York City declared monkeypox a health emergency

New York City officials declared a public health emergency on Saturday due to the spread of the monkeypox virus. The city is also call the epicenter of the outbreak.

Mayor Eric Adams and Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan said in a statement that the city’s 150,000 residents are at risk of infection. The declaration allows officials to issue emergency orders and implement preventive measures to slow the spread of disease under the city’s health code.
